“Corneliu Baba. Artist of Deep Realism”, an exhibition dedicated to the great Romanian master in Chisinau

The National Art Museum of Moldova in Chisinau hosts the largest exhibition dedicated to the great Romanian master Corneliu Baba in the Republic of Moldova, “Corneliu Baba. Artist of Deep Realism”, an event by Art Safari.

“Appreciated, rewarded with high distinctions, and considered a reference painter of the 20th century, Corneliu Baba was formed in the modern stage of national art, but he refused to join the modernist trend that dominated the art world. He found his way and became very well-known internationally in the 1960s. Through the selected works, we present to art lovers from the Republic of Moldova a complete journey of the master of Romanian art: from landscapes and static natures painted mainly at the beginning of creation to the profoundly realistic compositions with peasants, which brought him fame, and the works that marked the end of his career, of high sophistication: harlequins, mad kings and scares”, says Maria Albani, art historian.

“The work of one of the most representative Romanian artists, Corneliu Baba, perhaps the most well-known and appreciated Romanian painter of the 20th century, both in Eastern and Western Europe, arrives in Chisinau. The works of Corneliu Baba called the human painter, draftsman of strength, and the greatest Romanian portraitist, who created works of rare expressiveness and artistic vigor, will be exhibited at the National Art Museum in Chisinau. We express all our gratitude for the effort of the cultural operator Art Safari from Bucharest and to the collectors and museums that accepted the loan of the works to be exhibited, but not least to the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova, which constantly supports large-scale cultural projects, ensuring this time the access of art lovers from the Republic of Moldova to the work of the great artist, deeply humanist, Corneliu Baba”, said Tudor Zbârnea, director of the National Art Museum of Moldova.

The exhibition includes works from the most important art museums in Romania, such as the Bucharest Municipal Museum, the “Vasile Pârvan” Bârlad Museum, the Constanța Art Museum, the Gorj County Museum “Alexandru Ștefulescu,” the Prahova County Art Museum “Ion Ionescu -Quintus,” The Municipal Museum “Octavian Moșescu” Râmnicu Sărat, but also from the most prestigious private art collections.

The exhibition can be visited until October 29.

Address: National Art Museum of Moldova in Chisinau, 31 August 1989 street, no. 115, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova.
