Between September 9 and 27, 2024, Elite Art Gallery hosts the exhibition of the artists who participated in this year’s residency in Balchik, a project initiated by the Elite Art Club Association over twenty years ago.
The exhibition, organized by the Capital City Hall through ARCUB – the Cultural Center of the City of Bucharest, brings together the works of artists Zinaida Capatîna, Sabina Drinceanu, Andreea Floreanu, Adelina Gavrilă, Theodor Grigoraș, Ingrid Juncanariu, Ștefan Doru Moscu, Luminița Radu and is curated by Roxana Diochețanu.
Since the interwar period, Balcic has been known for its unique beauty and close connection with Queen Maria, immediately becoming a center of artistic inspiration. Through royal patronage, Balcic attracted numerous artists, who formed what is known today as the “Balcic artistic colony.” In this context, the cultural heritage is revitalized in the creations of contemporary artists, who (re)compose the Mediterranean locus through the prism of new artistic languages.
“Between the smooth waves of the Black Sea, the beautiful Silver Coast, as it was nicknamed by the geologist Gheorghe Murgoci, represents a space around which Romanian art experienced a profound development. Retaining the driving force of the place, the new generation of artists have responded to the challenge of interpreting this spirit in a manner that reflects contemporary sensibilities and concerns, resulting in a body of work that not only honors the past but also transforms it. From figurative compositions to abstract pulsations, the eight artists embraced the border between tradition and innovation, weaving an endless dialogue between eras,” said Roxana Diochețanu, curator of Elite Art Gallery.
The exhibition can be visited between September 9 and 27, 2024, from Monday to Friday, at the Elite Art Gallery (Piața Naționile Unite, no. 3-5). Visitor access is free.
