The Romana Gallery presents the exhibition, “La locul faptei/ At the scene”, a unique artistic project by Ovidiu Ungureanu that documents the creative process of the artist Ion Grigorescu.
The exhibition, a space of experiment, reveals a universe of performative interventions, spontaneous gestures and investigations of the personal reality of the artist Ion Grigorescu, captured by technical photo-video means, with a remarkable visual acuity, by the visual artist Ovidiu Ungureanu.
Since 2016, the meetings between the two creators, whether in camps, residencies or in the multimedia studio, organically led to this performative project, in which the visual artist Ovidiu Ungureanu manages to capture and immortalize fragments of an intense creative process where the artist Ion Grigorescu simultaneously becomes subject, creator and performer.
“At the scene” is a perhaps indiscreet look at the moment of execution/creation, an incursion into the space where the artist consumes himself in the artistic act.
In essence, the artist is a doer. Moreover, when he discovers meaning and significance in unexpected places, he becomes a true do-it-all. “On the spot” thus becomes a focal point of creation, the place where new visions and interpretations are born. It is a space where the artist exposes himself, before exposing himself to the world through the work.
The guest of the event is the art critic Erwin Kessler, the author of the volume “Ion Grigorescu. The painted work: 1963-2022”, bilingual edition published in 2023 by Vellant Publishing House, which offers a detailed analysis of Ion Grigorescu’s artistic evolution.
