“Art and Anthropologie” is a project about interdisciplinary residency meetings in Luncavița commune, Dobrogea.
The project proposed artistic and anthropological research that would familiarize the public with the histories of people and places through the lens of climate and housing transformations, starting from human intervention.
The first series of artists and anthropologists in the program of artistic residencies and interdisciplinary meetings, “Art and Anthropology,” ended at the end of July.
Between July 10 and 23, the three artists and two anthropologists walked through the village of Luncavița and its surroundings, discovering the local community, biodiversity, and their interactions.
A few forays to the beehives in the linden forest, a walk to the Danube, and a climb in the Măcin Mountains acclimatized the residents to the northern Dobrogean area, gradually outlining their research and artistic intervention. The direct dialogues with the locals who welcomed the residents into their daily rhythms allowed them to approach topics related to infrastructure, water consumption, or beekeeping practices specific to the area.
If the locals provided optimal materials for discussions and anthropological or artistic research directions, the creative workshops of psycho-geography or ceramics for the village children concluded the first residency series activity.
The July resident team consisted of Alexandra Boaru, Lena Ciobanu, Maria Trifon, Raluca Gorgos, and Petra Maria.
In September, the final exhibition of the project will take place at the Museum of the Romanian Peasant, an exhibition that will map all these efforts to explore and get to know Northern Dobrogea.
Art and Anthropology, an initiative of the Artistic Laboratory Association, is a project started in the spring of 2020, through which the association aimed to become a viable partner for emerging artists by creating opportunities not only for exhibitions but also for learning and experimentation, through dialogue and mutual support.
