#RDW2022 #Forward

10 years of Romanian Design Week

A new edition of Romanian Design Week takes place this week in Bucharest. Romanian Design Week, an event organized by The Institute and presented by UniCredit Bank turned into the most important festival dedicated to the local creative industries.

This anniversary edition, which marks 10 years of RDW, proposes an approach based on experiences, processes, and collaborations involving the public, artists, and creative-cultural organizations to create a favorable context for cities and local communities’ sustainable and harmonious development.

Until Sunday, May 22, RDW visitors are invited to explore dozens of design exhibitions and interactive installations located in several creative areas of the Capital. Starting with this edition, the organizers aimed to stimulate the consumption of Romanian design, offering visitors the opportunity to buy the objects presented by the Romanian artists participating in the event.

Combinatul Fondului Plastic, a space that hosts an important artistic community, made up of art galleries and the workshops of well-known artists, remains the festival’s main location for the third consecutive year.

At Combinatul Fondului Plastic, the space outside has turned into a “miniature design city with a square, panoramic gardens, bars and areas for socializing.”

Indoor, Combinatul Fondului Plastic hosts a series of design exhibitions, installations, and the largest design concept store, where the creations of over 100 Romanian designers and artists are exhibited.

Moreover, two international design exhibitions are presented at Combinatul Fondului Plastic: Smart Hungary, presented by the Liszt Institute – The Hungarian Cultural Center in Bucharest, and Czech Design Studio Herrmann & Coufal Exhibition, presented by the Czech Center Bucharest.

The project RDW Design GO! brings together over 50 events and activities that take place in several creative spaces in Bucharest, from art galleries, design and architecture studios, workshops, and museums, to showrooms or cafes.

The I.C. Brătianu Settlements, a remarkable example of neo-Romanian architecture, reopened for this edition. For 10 days the location becomes a Design House where the public is greeted every day with a new personal exhibition signed by a Romanian designer.

The National Museum of the Romanian Peasant joins the Romanian Design Week festival with the exhibition Connected to nature (circular tradition), curated by architect Teodor Frolu.

The exhibitions at Combinatul Fondului Plastic can be visited from Monday to Friday between 12:00-22:00, and on weekends between 10:00-22:00. The event ends this Sunday, May 22.
