The Hypostases of Power. A new series of conferences from the Works in the Foreground program at the MNAR

A new series of conferences from the Works in the Foreground program is being held at the National Museum of Art of Romania in the Gallery of European Art, under the title The Hypostases of Power. The first conference took place on March 29, 2025, and the theme will be repeated twice: on free Wednesdays, on May 7, 2025, and June 4, 2025, respectively, from 4:00 p.m. The conferences are held by Mălina Conțu, a specialist in the European Art Section.

Through this series of presentations, the public is invited to engage in direct dialogue with lesser-known or previously unknown works from the European Art Section’s repositories. For four months, a painting or sculpture is exhibited in the Gallery of European Art to highlight it from various perspectives, aiming to present it in a different light.

In the months of March – June 2025, the work that will tell its story is The Factory Manager created in 1921 by the Belgian artist with socialist visions, Frans Masereel, and the theme of the conference aims to analyze the new social typologies of the modern industrial city from the perspective of power relations: The Hypostases of Power. The meeting takes place on the second floor of the European Art Gallery, in the French Painting Room, where the work brought to the fore will be exhibited in an exceptional manner.
