LA CAVE is a space of contemporary expression, opened by the French Institute in Cluj in March 2017. Intimate and versatile, this space hosts exhibitions, screenings, conferences, and workshops dedicated to contemporary culture. La Cave’s mission is to promote talents in the fields of art and cinematography.

This call is for artistic projects that will be exhibited in La Cave during 2023.
The organizer reserves the right to exhibit other artists or projects outside the competition.
Eligibility conditions and criteria
This call for projects is addressed to artists regardless of nationality, who are active in the following fields: visual arts, artistic installations, and performances, design (including fashion), photography, architecture, video and multimedia, and cinematography.
Candidates can compete individually or collectively. If they wish, artists will be able to sell their works through the exhibition.
Exhibitions that will deal with priority themes for the French Institute, such as ecology, and digital art, or that target the young public will be privileged.
Selection
The selection will be made based on a file, according to the following criteria:
– the quality of the artistic project
– the professional path of the artist
– adaptation to the exhibition space
Duration of exhibitions
The duration of exhibitions in La Cave varies between 10 days and a month.
Visiting hours are from Monday to Friday between 10 am and 5 pm.
Financial arrangements
The French Institute bears the costs related to the communication of the exhibition (posters and online communication through the Institute website, newsletter, and their Facebook page – 22000 subscribers in total).
The French Institute bears the costs related to the organization of the opening.
If it is voluminous or heavy work that requires national or international transport, please indicate this at the time of applying.
The French Institute is assisting the artist in setting up the exhibition in La Cave.
The French Institute does not cover fees or production costs.
The French Institute does not cover costs related to the transport or accommodation of the artists.
Application file
The files must be written in French, Romanian or English.
The application file is composed of:
- a cover letter of a maximum one page
- photos or video images of the works that will be exhibited or a fragment of the performance, etc
- a portfolio
- a CV of the candidate artists with contact details
This file must be submitted by December 15, 2022 (midnight)

The files will only be returned at the express request of the artist.
The result of the call for projects will be published no later than January 31, 2023.
The most original exhibition in 2023 will be rewarded at the end of the year with a prize of 1500 lei.
