Open Call for contemporary dancers & performers

The 4Culture association launches an open call to select four artists from the contemporary dance and performance scene.

The “Writings in Space and Time” lab is part of the “Exploring Pluralities” project and will be coordinated by the Norwegian choreographer Mette Edvardsen as a mentor.
In the laboratory, the participants develop new solo creations that will be included in the program of Symposium #2, EXPLORING PLUREALITIES, in September 2023, at WASP- Working Art Space and Production.

About the “Writings in Space and Time” Laboratory

In the laboratory, Mette Edvardsen will address the role and form of written language in contemporary performance creations. The proposed working methods include current practices of the artist, present both in her creations and in her doctoral research at Oslo University of the Arts, alongside other recurring patterns in her works.

The relationship with space and what it evokes are essential questions in Mette Edvardsen’s work. How do we behave and move in a given environment? How does it produce us, or how do we make it? What are the actions taking place in the space, and what is the performative potential of the built environment? The movement of the audience and the way they interact with the area can be understood as choreographic material and choreographic proposals.

The working process will approach a working method focused on collective feedback provided by all participating artists. The laboratory will result in 4 new solo creations produced by the 4Culture Association within the EXPLORING PLUREALITIESnproject.

Duration, place & participation criteria

The lab will be at WASP – Working Art Space & Production from 15 August to 20 September 2023. The working sessions mentored by Mette Edvardsen will take place both online and in the 4Culture studio at WASP.
