“How do we understand contemporary art” | Book launch at Cărtureşti Palas in Iasi

On Friday, February 7, from 7 p.m., at Cărturești Palas, the collective volume “How we understand contemporary art” will be launched, published at Vellant Publishing House. Some of the authors will discuss the topics covered in the volume: the artist Matei Bejenaru, the curator and art critic Cristian Nae and the cultural manager George Pleșu, together with Luminița Apostu Toma, in the role of moderator.

This volume appeared as a culmination of a series of conferences and intensive courses held in Iasi in September and October 2024. The texts are signed by Matei Bejenaru, Alice de Dinechin, Daria Ghiu, Erwin Kessler, Alexia Manzano, Diana Marincu, Cristian Nae, George Pleșu, Corina Șuteu, Mihaela Tilincă, the illustrations belong to the artist Dan Perjovschi.

“I thought of this program to be able to present to the general public different perspectives on contemporary art and its mediation, in a language that we wanted to be accessible, with examples of good practices at the national level and, with the help of lecturers from France and Germany invited, at the European level. The texts in the volume may also interest students and pupils in humanities education, as well as those who work in and with cultural institutions, NGOs and other types of organizations that run artistic programs or work with artists and diverse communities.” ( George Plesu)

On February 25, the volume will also be launched in Bucharest, at Cărturești Carusel, in the presence of authors Daria Ghiu, Erwin Kessler, Corina Șuteu, with Ioan Alexandru Radu as moderator.
