RADAR 2023 OPEN CALLS

RADAR New Media Art has launched the session of OPEN CALLS for RADAR 2023 – Edition IV, which will take place between September 8 and 10, 2023.

During the entire duration of the festival, one or more Live New Media Performances will take place in at least one of the RADAR locations. Live shows invite the public to travel through the festival spaces in a proposed circuit during the 3 days of the festival. Along the route, visitors are invited to become live performers and artists themselves, exploring the interactive installations.

This year’s theme of the RADAR 2023 festival – Live New Media Performances encourages the exploration of new phenomena – What effects do attempts to decline reality through digital technology have? How is one’s self altered by its digital expression and representation, and how is the viewer’s Self modulated? How is the virtual identity constituted? In what ways does technology help augment performance art? How can technology be used in the performing arts to reach audiences?

Categories to which you can enter your project:

  • OPEN CALL “RADAR Community”
  • OPEN CALL “New Projects”
  • OPEN CALL RADAR Kids

The 3 categories of this year’s Open Call are addressed to all those who have realized projects in the last 2 years or who have a new project, which has not been presented/exhibited in another context or is not an iteration of a previous project. The project can be an independent installation that uses New Media art means or that also has a Live moment (the moment of Live New Media Performances must be every day of the 3 days of the festival). The applicant project can also be an act in itself, with a fixed duration, such as a play, with the stipulation that it must integrate the technology part.

The proposed projects must develop three instances:

  • the audience interacts directly;
  • contains a performance that augments and adds a new layer to the installation;
  • regardless of the interaction it is a project that creates a valuable experience for the audience.

The categories of performative moments of registration can be: Dance, Sound Design, Theatre, Poetry, Puppeteering, Sculpting, Painting, Vj-ing, Live coding, Technological performance, Hybrid forms
(*and other categories or intersections).

Priority is given to projects that propose a new media art installation and also contain a performance related to the installation.

The registration form and all the information regarding the OPEN CALLS can be found here.

Registration deadline: March 12, 2023
