Galeria Romană presents Locul inimii noastre/ The Place of Our Heart, a dialogue exhibition between Christian Paraschiv and the NOIMA group formed by Ciprian Bodea, Dan Gherman, Cosmin Frunteș, Andrei Rosetti and Sorin Scurtulescu.
The opening will take place on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., Bd. Lascăr Catargiu, no. 1, sector 1, Bucharest.
Christian Paraschiv’s proposal to create a NOIMA + 1 exhibition was received with openness by the painters of the group founded in Timișoara 20 years ago, a moment that coincides with Paraschiv’s first returns to Romania. The dialogue on which the exhibition Locul inimii noastre/ The Place of Our Heart is based evokes an artistic approach of Christian Paraschiv entitled Dans mon Coeur.
In the context of experienced realities – investigations and medical interventions – Paraschiv was building in 2017, starting from a medical imaging archive, a painting project and other media presented publicly also at the Galeria Romana. The painter seemed to immerse himself in the microcosm of his own body, studying the internal tissues and organs, the heart – in particular, with tools and language reminiscent of going out into the landscape.
The meeting with NOIMA brings a new perspective on the heart-eye tandem. The evangelical meaning of the heart – seen as a marker that signals what we value most (“where your treasure is, there is your heart”) – was perhaps hinted at by Paraschiv in 2017.
This meaning now wants to be investigated again, on the path of a self-research that assumes the condition of a painter. To what is my language, my gaze, my thought, my heartbeat directed? – the NOIMA +1 painters seem to be wondering. What do I have most valuable and how do I explore this treasure with the tools and experience of painting?
Such a filter assumes a relationship to the world outlined by the Gospel texts attributed to Luke (patron of painters) and Matthew: “The light of the body is the eye; if your eye is pure, your whole body will be enlightened. And if your eye is evil, your whole body will be dark. So if the light that is in you is darkness, how much more darkness!”
NOIMA +1 brings to the Galeria Romana an examination of the six workshops, a localization effort undertaken with the awareness of the fact that the sky is the place of lasting treasures, and that the heart is the worldly antechamber of this haunted place.
The exhibition is open from February 10 to March 10, 2023.
