“Autoportret cu inima-n gât” – electrifying show after texts written by the female painter Ecaterina Vrana | ARCUB

On Monday, October 31st, at ARCUB, Sala Mare (84-90 Lipscani Street) is playing the play “Autoportret cu inima-n gât” after texts written by the female painter Ecaterina Vrana.

The show ” Autoportret cu inima-n gât “, coordinated and conceived by Teona Galgoțiu, is an electrifying one-woman show of the actress Cristiana Luca, directed by Irisz Kovacs, on a video-animation by Eugen Munteanu and with a sound design by Adrian Piciorea.

Theona Galgoțiu made up the play by breaking the chronological thread of Catherine Vrana’s notations and highlighting the affective constants of intense public life, doubled by a huge inner solitude. The alternating bursts of enthusiasm and despair, the repeated falls and the dizzying climbs, the systematic intoxication with the hottest cold water, followed by the freezing of the facts under the magnifying glass of lucidity and radical doubt, inevitable in the case of any artist completely absorbed in his/her vocation, make ” Autoportret cu inima-n gât ” a genuine generic portrait of the current artist, at the mercy of a pragmatic world, in which nothing is impossible, but everything crushes.

Cristiana Luca’s acting performance, intense and authentic, is supported by the non-invasive but extremely suggestive direction, the enveloping sound, and the empathetic video animation, perfectly compatible with the acting. All together made the show go far beyond the simple evocation of Ecaterina Vrana (who disappeared in 2019) and become a disturbing testimony to the state of affairs and mood of current artists, regardless of their field of activity.

ARCUB joined the MARe/Museum of Recent Art initiative and brings this overwhelming dramatic achievement to the Bucharest public.

MARe/Museum of Recent Art organized in Constanta, between September 6-8, 2022, the Ecaterina Vrana Festival. On September 7, during the Festival, the play “Autoportret cu inima-n gât” was presented for the first time, in the performance hall of the Ioan N. Roman County Library. Teona Galgoțiu dramatized under this title a selection of the texts of the artist Ecaterina Vrana, published in the volume “Ecaterina Vrana. I’m afraid to paint”, made by MARe/Museum of Recent Art and Vellant publishing house (2022)

Immediately after the play, also at ARCUB, there will be a round table around the volume “Ecaterina Vrana. I’m afraid to paint”, the critical catalog of Ecaterina Vrana’s entire work, made by MARe/Museum of Recent Art published in September 2022 at Vellant Publishing House. The round table, moderated by Alex Radu, will be attended by Carola Chișiu, Ioana Șerban, Teona Galgoțou, Irisz Kovacs, and Erwin Kessler.

Free entry, within the limits of the available seats, with prior reservation on the ARCUB website.
