The Art Encounters Foundation invites you to a mentoring session in the visual arts led by Ami Barak, curator and art critic based in Paris. Among the most interesting projects curated by Ami Barak is the ExEast exhibition. The Opel Call is addressed especially to young artists, curators, and professionals from the contemporary art area interested in the strategies and dynamics of promotion in the visual arts.

The mentorship led by Ami Barak in Timisoara, on Friday, October 7, 2002, in the attic of the Faculty of Arts and Design of the Western University, aims to address the following topics:

☑Career planning

Where do you want to go artistically and professionally? How to define values, identify key choices and develop a plan to achieve your professional goals? How to address obstacles in terms of efficiency, flexibility, and structure to achieve your artistic goals?

☑Portfolio Editing

The portfolio is the core of promotion and professional meetings. Improving the artist statement, adapting the artistic CV, curating and formatting the creations.

☑Marketing

Definition of the artistic product and target audience; decisions on how the works are sold; identifying a budget and strategy for promoting artistic activity.

☑Promotion

Develop compelling messages and a strategy to make your work, events, and news known.

☑Valorization of work

Analytical approach for establishing the value of works. Inclusion of factors of production and variables designed to customize a formula suitable for artistic activity.

☑Legal considerations

General information about intellectual property, the basics of contracts, and the structuring of artistic activity.

☑Financing

How to creatively think about diversifying funding flows by exploring different models of generating value, resources, and revenue.

☑Writing Grants

The essential elements of grant writing, together with resources for searching and structuring grants.

☑Other essential elements

Organizing various aspects of artistic practice and making informed decisions. Attracting gallerists and collectors, as well as selling the works. Tools and techniques for communicating to potential buyers of works.
