Today, September 13th, the exhibition PATH IN TRANSYLVANIA which brings together works signed by the artist Ștefan Câlția was opened to the general public. The exhibition, organized at the invitation of The Prince’s Foundation, is hosted by the foundation’s exhibition space: The Garrison Chapel Gallery in London.
The Prince’s Foundation is an educational charity founded in 1986 by King Charles III, then Prince of Wales. His Royal Highness Charles is an admirer of the artist Stefan Câlţia. The two met in Viscri this spring.
The solo exhibition in London invites the viewer on a journey in Transylvania through the prism of the paintings, the fantastic characters, and the objects that define the art of the master Ștefan Câlția. The Transylvanian countryside landscape remains the main source of inspiration for the artist. In a direct connection with life and the world, his art is about nature, carnival, or journeys. Stefan Câlția’s characters are particular and universal at the same time. Preoccupied with the idea of place as a representation of nature and belonging, his landscapes talk about roots, man’s relationship with nature, about painting as a medium of expression, but also about conservation, and preservation.
“However, I wish that the one who looks at what I have done does not even guess this story. I wish he could see his own places, which he already has ordained inside him. I do not want him to change when he is sitting in this landscape, but simply for him to look, in a clearer way or from another angle, at what he was already carrying with him. And then, after he leaves my work, to have the joy of meditation. I do not have the ambition to either re-establish the world or change it. It is as if we are standing together on a hill, watching the water of the Olt River glistening in the distance. Maybe I understand something from this picture and you do something else. But both of these agreements are related to the light”, mentions Ștefan Câlția.
The exhibition is open until October 16, 2022, from 11:00 to 16:00 (UK time), Monday to Friday, at The Garrison Chapel in Chelsea Barracks, SW1W 8BG, London.
The exhibition project is part of an extensive partnership, developed between the Stefan Câlția Foundation, the Monumentum Association, the Ambulance for Monuments, the Possible Gallery, and the Artep Gallery Association.
