The exhibition “Km 0 al Artei Contemporane” opened at ARCUB Hanul Gabroveni in the Old Center of the Capital, was extended until July 31. The group exhibition brings together 37 French artists from the Parisian art gallery Rivoli 59 and 20 Romanian artists.
“Km 0 al Artei Contemporane” is the result of a Romanian-French cultural exchange initiated by the artist George Bodocan. The event is organized by the 1001 Arte Association in Bucharest, in partnership with the Rivoli 59 Association, affiliated with the Paris City Hall, and with ARCUB – the Cultural Center of Bucharest, an institution subordinated to the Bucharest City Hall.
“If the works of the French artists propose to the Bucharest public a foray into the diversity of contemporary European art through an explosion of rhythm and color, light and movement, the works of the Romanian artists resume the theme of the Artistic Bestiary, adapted to the year 2022.
The motivations of the project take into account the condition of the young Romanian artist, marked by financial deprivations, but also by opportunities in a society characterized by numerous social disorders. In this context, eight established artists will be alongside young artists as a plea for mentorship and artistic solidarity.
“The lack of interest of the local public in the phenomenon of contemporary art makes many valuable artists abandon their artistic career before the age of 30 years old,” said Cristian Cojanu, cultural manager, and curator of 1001 Arte.
In this context, the Romanian-French cultural exchange is necessary both for Romanian artists and for the public who appreciate contemporary art, but often consider it inaccessible. Too little promoted, highly codified, hidden through galleries where only a few initiates enter, the message of this cultural exchange is that young artists, no matter where they practice, need the encouragement of the public.” (extract from the presentation text of the event)
