MATCA artspace presents the group exhibition “Underneath All Traces of Comfort”, organized as part of the FORWARD residency program. The exhibition brings together works by artists Giulia Crețulescu, Petru Cruceru, Ana Ionescu, and David Pricob, curated by Adriana Bicăzan.
The opening will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 6:00 PM at MATCA artspace, located at 21 Calea Turzii, Cluj-Napoca. The exhibition will be on view from June 27 to July 11, 2026.
“What’s left of the body when it reveals itself only through images, objects, and the structures that shape it? It can hardly be separated from the infrastructures in which it resides, carrying the traces of all the systems it has moved through. Throughout the exhibition, stainless steel objects act as shields that both protect and expose a vulnerable body, while post-industrial landscapes
from Valea Jiului situate it within a decaying environment marked by the decline of the mining sector.
Underneath All Traces of Comfort brings together artworks that navigate the shifting boundaries between body and object, presence and absence, while reflecting on the ways bodies are formed and exposed through their relationship to the infrastructures that surround them. Rather than treating the body as an isolated entity, the artists approach it as something continuously shaped
through its encounter with spaces, transitioning between personal histories and collective environments.” (curatorial text)
The event is part of the FORWARD residency program and is a cultural project co-funded by the National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN).
The exhibition is organized with the support of the Cluj-Napoca City Hall and Local Council, in partnership with Praxis! and the University of Art and Design Cluj-Napoca.
