The 2026 edition of the European event “Museum Night” takes place on Saturday, May 23, bringing together more than 320 museums and cultural venues across 39 counties in Romania. Organized by the National Network of Museums in Romania, the event transforms museums into vibrant spaces open late into the night, offering free or symbolic-price access to visitors.
The event’s official platform, “Museum Night,” features the full program of participating institutions nationwide, ranging from major national museums to local collections, galleries, and memorial houses.
In 2026, Bucharest once again remains the main cultural hub of the event, with nearly 50 participating museums and a program combining classical exhibitions, multimedia installations, concerts, workshops, and guided nighttime tours.

A European cultural tradition
“Museum Night” has been organized in Romania since 2005 and is part of the European network coordinated with the support of the French Ministry of Culture, UNESCO, and the Council of Europe. Over the years, the event has become one of the country’s most popular cultural initiatives, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
The 2026 edition once again highlights the public’s growing interest in nighttime cultural experiences and in rediscovering heritage through accessible, relaxed, and visually engaging events. In many cities, museums are no longer just exhibition spaces, but places where art, technology, music, and community come together.
