At the Scemtovici & Benowitz Gallery in Bucharest, the exhibition “The Dark Conception. Heresies of Lilith and Saturn” can be visited — a duo show by Robert Lőrincz and Paul Baraka Marat, curated by Valentin Trifescu.
“Heretical disciples of Lilith and Saturn, Robert Lőrincz (b. 1995, Sfântu Gheorghe) and Paul Baraka Marat (b. 1994, Arad) possess a complex spiritual genealogy — dark and heavy as lead — in which obsessive -compulsive anxieties, revolts, traumas, sexual desires, and dark reveries intertwine. Consciously choosing the path of the left hand, through acts of profanation, excess, or melancholy, the two artists undertake their painful nocturnal cathartic process. […]
A first pairing of the two artists took place in the winter of 2024 at the Brukenthal National Museum in Sibiu, in an exhibition curated by Alexandru Constantin Chituță. The idea gained traction within the visual imagination of Bucharest’s contemporary art galleries, with Scemtovici & Benowitz Gallery hosting, between March 12 and April 4, 2026, the duo show The Dark Conception. Heresies of Lilith and Saturn.”

Robert Lőrincz (b. 1995, Sfântu Gheorghe, Covasna) graduated from the BA (2017) and MA (2019) programs of the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, under the guidance of Ioan Sbârciu. He lives and works in Sfântu Gheorghe. The artist draws inspiration from his passions for music, cinema, and literature, while also exploring the visual power of mythology and symbolism.
His first solo show in Bucharest was “Eros/Thanatos” (2021) at the Combinatul Fondului Plastic, Artsafe exhibition space. In 2023, he held a solo exhibition at Casa Avramide, part of the Tulcea Art Museum, and participated in SCAF – the Sibiu International Contemporary Art Festival, which brought together artists from five continents. In 2024, he took part in the group exhibition “Figurativus Eklektikos” at The Institute gallery and in the duo show “Incendiar” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sibiu alongside Paul Baraka. In 2025, he participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs.
Paul Baraka Marat (b. 1994, Arad) graduated from the Faculty of Arts and Design at the West University of Timișoara in 2017, under the guidance of Cristian Sida. Working across various media — painting, sculpture, drawing, and installation — Paul creates works that push conventional boundaries, challenging viewers to reflect on their own morality and the world around them. By exploring aspects of the grotesque and its intersections with contemporary life, his message critiques social and political norms, emphasizing the importance of introspection and change in achieving a balance between inner good and evil.
After numerous group and solo exhibitions in Timișoara following his studies, Paul took part in his first major exhibition in Bucharest at Art Safari Love Edition with the duo show “Nymphs & Zombies” (2023), followed by LSR – Romanian Sculptors Month (2024) in Iași, the group exhibition “Figurativus Eklektikos” in Bucharest (2024), and the duo show “Incendiar” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sibiu (2024).
The exhibition can be visited until April 4, 2026, from Tuesday to Saturday, between 15:30 and 19:30.
