Common Field: UNFOLDS

The exhibition Common Field: UNFOLDS, curated by Anne-Marie Lolea and Anamaria Grigor, proposes an exploration of the idea of shared space as a territory in constant transformation, where artistic practices meet, overlap, and unfold in multiple directions. Bringing together works by artists Sergiu Chihaia, Sorin Dan Cojocaru, Mirela Ivanciu, Mircea Modreanu, Răzvan Neagoe, Alina Tudor, and Silvia Trăistaru, the project investigates how individual experiences can generate collective forms of meaning and reflection.

“The connection between the invited artists is not merely a biographical framework, but a constitutive element of the ‘common field.’ Pre-existing research and the exchange of ideas create a framework that allows difference to coexist. The exhibition thus becomes a meeting space, an open structure in which the works communicate through thematic echoes and material resonances.

The concept of the ‘common field’ can be understood, in theoretical terms, in relation to the notion of the field formulated by Rosalind Krauss in her essay on the ‘expanded field’ of sculpture, where artistic practice is conceived not as a fixed category, but as a network of relationships and positions. Similarly, this exhibition does not aim to homogenize discourses, but rather to place distinct practices in tension, allowing them to coexist within a shared conceptual matrix.

The field thus becomes a relational space, a territory of intersections, where difference is not erased but amplified. Memory is understood as sedimentation and transformation, materiality as a carrier of time, and internal structures as spaces of tension between fragility and coherence. Together, the artists construct a field in which differences are articulated within a network of relationships, and communion becomes the invisible infrastructure of an authentic artistic dialogue.” (curatorial text)

The exhibition can be visited until May 3, 2026, at Atelier Silvia Trăistaru: Room 30, within Atelierele Malmaison (137C Calea Plevnei, Building B, 2nd floor, Bucharest).
