“In the Rhythm of the World”. Ștefan Bertalan at MARe

At MARe – the Museum of Recent Art, the exhibition In the Rhythm of the World, dedicated to the work of Ștefan Bertalan, will open on February 6. The exhibition presents an artist who transformed daily observation into a visual investigation of rare sensitivity and rigor. From experiments on balance, light, and growth to works created during years of isolation, Bertalan’s practice explores the relationship between human beings, nature, and technology as a constant search for meaning.

Curated by Bernard Blistène, Honorary Director of the Centre Pompidou – Musée National d’Art Moderne, in collaboration with Iuna Șerban, MARe curator, the exhibition is organized thematically and brings together works, archives, and documents from key stages of the artist’s career, from Cluj and Timișoara to his exile in Germany and his return to Timișoara. Special emphasis is placed on Ștefan Bertalan’s contribution to the groups 111 and SIGMA, major landmarks of the Romanian and European neo-avant-garde.

The exhibition will be on view at MARe from February 6 to May 3, 2026, continuing the retrospective initiated last year by Art Encounters at the ISHO Center in Timișoara.
