Opening | “Art Will Tear Us Apart” at Cărturești Carusel

“Art Will Tear Us Apart” is a collaboration between curator Andrei Bucureci and artist Cristiana Bucureci. The exhibition reflects the tension and the eternal duel between music and image. Who wins? The sound that fades away, or the cover that remains? Here, collage screams without a voice, and music resonates without form.

Andrei examines the visual identity of music through a selection of vinyl record covers, while Cristiana explores the materiality of vinyl in her artistic practice, using it as an element of visual language.

The vinyl covers curated by Andrei Bucureci feature only disbanded bands and vanished artists: The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, Sfinx, Rodion G.A., Andy Warhol, Peter Blake, Lee “Scratch” Perry. Projects that burned intensely and then broke apart.

Separation is not a failure, but a source of energy—just like the relationship between the two exhibiting authors. The music has fallen silent, but the images continue to speak. Or perhaps it’s the other way around.

The collages from the series “Music of the Heart”, signed by Cristiana Bucureci, no longer represent music—they contain it. The record becomes a heart, a sculptural object, a physical rhythm. An invitation to look at music and listen to images. Because art does not repair the rupture. It makes it visible. And sometimes, it makes it braver.

The exhibition opening is conceived as a performative meeting. The dialogue between Cristiana Bucureci and Andrei Bucureci is an open conversation about how bridges can be built across the conflict between sound and image, about collaboration after separation. It is a live continuation of the exhibition, another type of collage: of stories, emotions, and experiences.

The opening takes place on Thursday, January 29, at 7:00 PM, at Cărturești Carusel.
