This autumn, Reșița has officially joined the global street art map. The facade of a residential building on Republicii Boulevard no. 4, in the Intim district, is now home to a monumental mural by Millo – one of the most acclaimed contemporary muralists in the world. This marks the Italian artist’s first intervention in Romania, a significant moment not only for the city but also for the local and national art scene.
Invited as part of a cultural project exploring urban regeneration through art, Millo created a large-scale work in Reșița that speaks about rebirth, connection, and the trust that binds people together in a community. The message is particularly powerful in a city with a complex industrial history, now undergoing a deep process of transformation.
The artist invited locals to contribute ideas for the mural’s final title – an open call for participation, reflection, and ownership of the visual symbols that will now mark their shared urban space.
Francesco Camillo Giorgino, known internationally as Millo, was born in 1979 in Mesagne, Italy, and graduated with honors from the Faculty of Architecture in Pescara. Beyond his academic background, Millo has gained global recognition for his distinctive style – a blend of graphic minimalism, poetic detail, and socially engaged messages.
Over the past 15 years, he has created more than 200 large-scale murals across cities worldwide – from Paris, Berlin, and London to Seoul, Miami, and Rio de Janeiro. His works are part of prestigious museum collections such as Urban Nation Museum (Berlin) and Straat Museum (Amsterdam), and one of his murals is featured at the iconic Wynwood Walls Museum in Miami.
Millo’s presence in Reșița signals the city’s growing openness to contemporary art and participatory creative practices. It marks a clear step toward rethinking not just public spaces, but also the role of art in everyday life – as a means of communication, healing, and identity-building.
Working alongside his assistant David, Millo completed the mural just in time for its public unveiling on October 12, 2025.
