“Mother Tongue(s)”. Group exhibition at Calciu Space

Between August 22 and September 14, 2025, Calciu Space in Bucharest hosts the exhibition “Mother Tongue(s)”, a curatorial initiative signed by Ianula Darlaiane, which brings together the works of six contemporary artists: Beatrice Arzoiu, Petru Cruceru, Anca Enache, Luca Florian, Ioana Gemanar and Dimitrie Luca Gora.

The opening takes place on Friday, August 22, from 7:00 PM, at Calciu Space within Scânteia Studios.

Mother Tongue(s) gathers works that reflect on the intimate bond between language and the self we inherit. More than a tool for communication, language carries the weight of ancestry, childhood, and the place we first called home. It is the voice of our upbringing that can nurture or confine the people we become. In this exhibition, artists trace the subtle transformations of identity that occur when we move between the selves of our early years and the selves shaped in adulthood. They ask what happens when the language of our childhood meets the experiences that define us later in life, when the person we have grown into must speak through the words of the person we once were. Between the comfort of the familiar and the pull of reinvention, the works navigate the delicate space where memory, belonging, and transformation meet.” (curtorial text)
