FOTCIENCIA – International Scientific Photography Exhibition at Oradea City Hall Tower

FOTCIENCIA is an international scientific photography exhibition organized by the Spanish National Council for Scientific Investigations (CSIC), which explores the deep and often surprising connection between art and science. Born from an annual photography competition (became biennial from 2024), the exhibition brings together nano, micro and macroscopic images, made by researchers, students, artists and amateur photographers, who document phenomena from the animal and plant kingdoms, human life, technology and various branches of science – from geology and chemistry to the humanities. Their different visions reflect the phenomena studied by science, its instruments and installations, the technologies resulting from the progress of research or the artistic vision that is born from scientific work. The ensemble represents a fascinating collection of photographs that encourages the dialogue between science, art and society.

The photographs capture moments from the laboratory or in nature, developing an artistic vision of scientific research. Each image is accompanied by a conceptual link to one of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda, thus highlighting the social dimension of science and its role in building a sustainable future.

The exhibition arrives in Oradea as part of Neo Art Connect (NAC) – the only annual art and science festival in Romania, now in its third edition, held in 2025 under the theme “Community”. With over 50 international projects from 8 countries, a focus on sustainability, innovative education and the impact of new technologies, NAC creates a network of interdisciplinary dialogue in 11 cities in Romania, between June and October 2025. It is organized by Galateca Gallery and NeoArt Romania Cultural Association in partnership with the Embassy of Spain in Bucharest.
The curators of this edition are Andreea Sandu and Anca Boeriu.

Galateca Gallery is an interdisciplinary cultural hub in the heart of Bucharest, recognized for its innovative projects at the border between art, science and sustainability. Since 2012, Galateca has become a landmark of the contemporary scene in Romania, promoting emerging and established artists through exhibitions, national platforms such as NeoArtConnect and initiatives with international impact. Galateca has developed a portfolio of multi-disciplinary artists and an important collection of modern and contemporary artworks.

Admission to the opening is free, and the exhibition will remain available to the public until the end of October.
