Galeria Jecza in Timișoara hosts the launch of the first exhibition of the ArtCollect Association, entitled “Private Public”. Part of the complementary Art Encounters program, this exhibition explores the intersection between private collecting and public access to art, bringing together works from personal collections in a captivating dialogue about the role of the collector in contemporary society.
ArtCollect Association, a new initiative founded by contemporary art collectors in Romania, makes its public debut with the exhibition “Publicul Privat”. The event marks the launch of the Selection platform and is part of the extended program of the Art Encounters Biennial 2025.
The Selection platform is available here.
The exhibition brings together works from private collections that explore the transitional space between the personal and the public. “Publicul Privat” offers a reflection on collecting as both an individual act and a potential institutional gesture – bridging the collector’s private sphere with new public-facing formats: museums, archives, publications, and educational platforms. It thus becomes an interface between personal curatorial practices and emerging communities of interpretation and dialogue.
The collections featured in this exhibition are at different stages in a broader shift – rethinking their foundations and moving from an intuitive, subjective exercise to more open, collaborative, and sustainable models of collecting.
ArtCollect aims to actively contribute to strengthening the artistic ecosystem in Romania and the region by fostering partnerships between collectors, institutions, and cultural professionals. Founding members: Avi Cicirean, Ion Florescu, Tudor Grecu, Anca Nath, Mircea Pinte, Alexandru Rus, and Ovidiu Șandor.
Visiting hours: Thursday – Friday, 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM; Saturday, 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM.
