The solo exhibition of Liliana Mercioiu Popa, “The deepest are the stars”, presented by META Spațiu, invites the public into a visual and conceptual foray into the deepest texture of knowledge, where materiality becomes a palimpsest of the relationship between man and nature.

Through her artistic approach, Liliana Mercioiu Popa reshapes the carpet not only as a utilitarian object and cultural construct but as a matrix of knowledge, an intermediary space between immediate and mediated perception. The fabric becomes a metaphor for the cosmos: each thread, a line in the invisible web of reality, each pattern, a mapping of the interconnection between the micro and macro cosmos, between the rhythms of nature and the inner pulse of the human being.
The grid – a fundamental element in the visual architecture developed by the artist – dissolves into textures, becoming a space of depth in which the unknown is not a void to be understood but a horizon to be explored.

“Situated between immediate and mediated reality, we have become accustomed to a rather mediated (cultural, instrumental, etc.) perception of the world, which is why I am dwelling on such an example in this approach.
The carpet is itself a cultural and utilitarian construct, but one that corresponds to a cosmogonic vision of the world, in essence, a well-articulated image in which the component elements support and generate each other (even structurally and mathematically). In relation to this world, predominantly of plants, human beings are not merely observers (classifiers, ordainers) but contemplators, harmonizing their lives according to this interweaving of the rhythms of nature, which have been deeply felt and transcribed through weaving.

At the same time, the carpet brings a temporal and spatial problematization. It is a permanent situating in the moment as it is woven. And the space of manifestation of the carpet is not one of flatness, but of depth (multispatial) or a form of excavation in-depth”.
