Romană Gallery presents a new exhibition of the painter Svetlana Mihăilescu, entitled “On Light”.
The exhibition brings together works with landscapes, flowering gardens, still lifes, and windows, the main character this time being light, as Svetlana Mihăilescu tells us: “The mirage, the miracle of light, is the fact that it reveals shapes and colours. Naturally, light is given by the sun or the moon: the warm light of the day and the cold light of the night. The rays are its messengers. Sometimes, they are visible, sometimes diffuse. Sometimes, they break the surface of things; sometimes, they are absorbed or reflected back depending on the type of materials they encounter on their way. The way the surface reflects the light defines the material you recreate as a plastic artist (…) For me, painting and drawing means another way of investigating the world.”
Svetlana Mihăilescu studied drawing and painting under the guidance of master Vasile Grigore from 1969 to 1970. Between 1970 and 1972, she attended courses at the University of Fine Arts, Ottawa, Canada and summer courses at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes San Fernando, Madrid, Spain.
She graduated in 1974 from “Nicolae Grigorescu” Institute of Fine Arts in Bucharest, Easel Painting section, Professor Constantin Blendea. Between 1974 and 1977, she was employed at the “Bucharest Cinematographic Studios”, Buftea. She worked as a Costume Designer on over 60 feature and short films, winning numerous awards.
The exhibition remains open until March 31, 2025.
Gallery hours: Monday – Friday: 10:00 – 18:00, Saturday: 10:00 – 15:00.
