“Reading in Art: Between Reality and Symbol” at Brașov Art Museum

The opening of the exhibition “Reading in Art: Between Reality and Symbol” curated by Alexandra Ilnițchi-Ardelean will take place at Brașov Art Museum on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 6:00 PM. A selection from the museum’s permanent collection highlights representations of reading in art, highlighting how books symbolize social status, education, intellectual emancipation and ideological control, depending on the historical context.

The selected artworks were made by the artists: Aurel BORDENACHE (1902-1987), Zina BLĂNUȚĂ (1913-1998), Eva CERBU (1924-2008), Hans EDER (1883-1955), EMERICH Tamás (1876-1901), DEREGÁN Gizella (1889-?), GYÁRFÁS Jenő (1857-1925), Constantin LECCA (1807-1887), Artur LEITER (1904-1987), Irina LUKÁSZ (1902-1985), Natalia MATEI-TEODORESCU (1916-1984), Mișu POPP (1827-1892), Stavru TARASOV (1883-1961).

The exhibition event invites the public to discover works of art from the collection of the Brașov Art Museum, some rarely or never exhibited before, in an event that celebrates books through an artistic incursion spanning two centuries of creation.

Participation in the opening event is free.

The exhibition will be open to the public from March 20 to April 20, 2025, in Hall One at the Brașov Art Museum, Bulevardul Eroilor no. 21.
