Self-Portrait | Mihai Ariciu Solo Exhibition at Galateea Contemporary Art

Galateea Contemporary Art Gallery in Bucharest is hosting the exhibition of artist Mihai Ariciu, entitled “Self-Portrait.” Curated by Iulian Vîrtopeanu, the exhibition can be visited until March 17.

“There is a time for introspection, a moment when returning to model study might just be the best way to start from the beginning, and what is the best model if not your own image?
Challenged by the concept of “persona,” I have imagined a series of works gathered in a personal, unitary endeavor simply called “self-portrait.”

The mask, the double, the way we perceive ourselves in certain attitudes or at different times in life, but also the attempt to find that deep, unchangeable part of our own unique self that also unites us with others, all become starting points for exercises in plastic expression.
Designed as sequences or small installations, the works – made of various ceramic materials – aim to emphasize the ambiguity between bas-relief and decorated surface, autonomous object or pretext for drawing study exercises.”
