Art Safari Women, a new edition celebrating women with an impressive contribution to Romanian art and culture

Art Safari opened a new edition celebrating women with an impressive contribution to Romanian art and culture. From Regina Maria, innate artistic spirit, supporter of Romanian artists whom she promoted and collected all her life, and Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck, the first art teacher in Europe, to Sibylle Bergemann, one of the most important contemporary photographers in Germany and the new wave of contemporary artists – Young Blood 3.0., the creative force of women is revealed between September 6 and December 15, at the Dacia-Romania Palace. Part of the exhibition “Young Blood 3.0. The New Wave of Contemporary Artists” can also be seen at Promenade Mall between September 19 and November 17.

The surprise of the edition is “Breasts. An exhibition like no other,” an absolute premiere in terms of Romanian exhibitions. It explores the representations of breasts in local art, from painting and sculpture to installations – Tonitza, Luchian, Iser, Pallady, etc.- but also contemporary artists.

Maria of Romania, queen and artist, alongside the Women Painters and Sculptors

The exhibition offers visitors a foray into the life and art of one of the most emblematic figures of the Romanian monarchy. Maria of Romania remained in history not only through her heroic deeds during the Great War but also through the artistic side of her being, manifested since childhood and youth.

Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck. The first female art teacher in Europe

Strong, ambitious, convinced feminist, mother, sister and wife, hardworking and eager to show everyone that women’s place is alongside men, not behind them – this is how Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck (1879-1969) could be described in a few words), the first female art teacher in Europe.

Breasts. An exhibition like no other

This is an unprecedented exhibition in Romania! From object of desire to censure, from admiration to shame, breasts have been an important catalyst in the cultural debates of recent decades.
The exhibition presented at Art Safari aims to examine the various approaches in which artists – from masters of Romanian art to some of the most relevant contemporary creators – have represented this part of the female body.

Young Blood 3.0. The New Wave of Contemporary Artists (6 September – 15 December at Art Safari and at Promenada Mall: 19 September – 17 November)

The artists of the new generation shed light on the new social trends in the online environment, but also in everyday reality, through various forms of expression, from classic painting and sculpture to installations made of unconventional materials. The exhibition dedicated to Supercontemporary art Young Blood has reached its 3rd edition, and this time the stage will belong exclusively to women.

Sibylle Bergemann. Fashion, art, culture through the lens of a woman.

The exhibition provides an overview of the entire oeuvre of one of Germany’s most important contemporary photographers, Sibylle Bergemann (1941-2010), who distinguished herself as a fashion photographer, soon becoming known for her photographic essays and for her precise observations on some hidden details. Her photos appeared in international publications, Der Spiegel, Stern, New York Times. The exhibition is made in partnership with ifa and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Romania.

With the new edition, special events with guided tours, music and drinks also debut.
