“Gold from Brukenthal” is exhibited for the first time in Bucharest between June 27 and July 28. The famous museum in Sibiu brings to the Capital an extraordinary collection of prehistoric, Roman and medieval gold, gilded silver and precious stones, jewelry and cult objects made by Sibiu goldsmiths, which shine through the complexity of the techniques and the beauty of the decorative motifs.
Over time, the Brukenthal National Museum has become a real treasure of gold and precious metals, by author and for criteria related to rarity and aesthetics—liturgical and customary silverware, decorative items, and jewelry. The core of this collection was the numismatics cabinet of Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, set up in his palace in Piaţa Mare, advertised in a Sibiu guide from 1790. As a landmark of size, only his numismatic collection, including many precious metal pieces, reached over 67,000 pieces.
The “Gold from Brukenthal” exhibition, curated by Alexandru Constantin Chituță, manager of the Brukenthal National Museum, brings for the first time to Bucharest works from the treasury of the Altemberger House History Museum of the Brukenthal National Museum. It will be exhibited at Art Safari prehistoric gold pieces, Roman pieces (jewelry and coins), early medieval pieces (6th-7th centuries), gold coins minted in Sibiu, gem rings, Saxon ornaments and cult objects made by the goldsmiths guild from Sibiu, one of the most famous in Europe.
The treasure of the Brukenthal National Museum, with over 2,000 pieces, represents an invaluable treasure of the history of precious metal processing in Transylvania, as stated by the manager of the Brukenthal Museum, Alexandru Constantin Chituță, curator of the exhibition: “The collaboration with Art Safari continues, and this year we will bring for the first time in Bucharest pieces from the historical, unique and precious treasure of the Altemberger House History Museum within the Brukenthal National Museum. They are spectacular pieces made through complex techniques and decorative motifs decorated with precious stones: diamonds, natural pearls, rubies, etc.”.
The “Gold from Brukenthal” exhibition at Art Safari is organized in collaboration with the Brukenthal National Museum and the CA Evangelical Parish in Sibiu, with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
