The exhibition of the photographer Alexandru Paul The Photographs I Wish I’d Taken from 2/3 Gallery is open to the public until May 4, 2024.
The photographs Alexandru Paul “wishes he had taken” are, in fact, images he actually did take, though not in the conventional sense of capturing a moment from reality through the lens & shutter. These images are all photomontages representing public spaces from various places, embodying the architecture of the agora as a collective, simultaneous manifestation.
Part of the “Hidden Stories” series (2008-2010), the works, presented in the post-pandemic context, gain a new significance as many of us have experienced a potentially irreconcilable shift in our perception of the public sphere.(…) – words by Horatiu Lipot
Alexandru Paul (b. 1971, Baia Mare) is a visual artist with an extensive experience in various fields and mediums such as photography, film, drawing, and experimental video.
“I have worked as a fashion and advertising photographer, as well as a cinematographer. I have worked for magazines such as ELLE, FHM, ESQUIRE, and many others, mainly focusing on fashion and portraiture. (…) At the same time, I have worked on personal projects and participated in some exhibitions and shows. I have shot a few short and long feature films. In 2005, I founded a small agency, ‘Umbrella’, which was the first agency representing photographers in Romania. In 2009, I shot a feature film for some friends, entitled ‘The Belly of the Whale’. It was a home movie that was featured in major festivals such as Locarno and Toronto.” – Alexandru Paul
This week, you can visit the exhibition ‘The Photographs I Wish I’d Taken’ from Wednesday to Friday between 16:00 – 19:00 h.
