NIMBUS AND AGONY. Exhibition by Simion Moldovan

The National Museum of the Romanian Peasant invites you to the opening of the drawing-color and sculpture exhibition “NIMBUS AND AGONY,” signed by artist Simion Moldovan, on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 5:00 PM, at Irina Nicolau Hall.

A graduate of the “Nicolae Grigorescu” Academy of Arts in Bucharest, Sculpture Section, in 1987, Simion Moldovan aligns himself with his drawing professor, Marin Iliescu, who shaped not only him but also the most important representatives of the artist’s peers. The sculptor gained recognition from both the public and art critics since his first solo exhibition in 1990 at Galateea Gallery in Bucharest, which remains a reference in his career. Over time, his works have been displayed in extensive solo exhibitions in Bucharest, Iași, Timișoara, Cluj, as well as in collective exhibitions and symposiums in the USA, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, among others.

Currently residing and working in Reghin, his hometown, Simion Moldovan’s works generate a dystopian universe where old elements coexist with the latest discoveries of science. His characters are replicants, moving in a plausible context that is both beautiful and ugly, where forced perspective and the accumulation of details create a retro trash-chic decor. Specifically designed for the Irina Nicolau Hall in the past year, the colorful drawings and sculptures brought by the artist from Reghin evoke a pleasant unease and compel viewers to reflect on the significant questions of the present world.
– Curator: Mădălina Mirea

The exhibition can be visited at Irina Nicolau Hall until February 25, 2024, from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM. The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
