100 years of UPT Campus (one one zero zero one zero zero – in binary code) represents not only a century of academic excellence but also a moment of a paradigm shift, transformation and adaptation to the digital age. We are witnessing the evolution of an institution that woven, in a complex way, the principles of “space” and “place”, walls and people, education and community. The exhibition aims to probe the symbiotic relationship between people and the university environment, between the various rhizomatic structures that give particularity to the campus, and to explore the possibility of areas of intersection, of the negotiation of spatiotemporal structures, which evade a uniperspective interpretation.

one one zero zero one zero zero reflects on the history of the Timișoara Polytechnic University campus, shedding light on various moments on how the built heritage influences the nature of the community and its culture. Participating artists – some of them graduates of UPT – offer, through the works created for the exhibition, new ways of perceiving spaces, interacting with them and transforming them into “places” with meaning, loaded with symbolic values and cultural resonance.

The exhibition, curated by Mirela Stoeac-Vlăduți, is divided into three spaces: the main hall of the Faculty of Mechanics (the first building in the complex designed by architect Duilui Marcu, in 1923), the 1 MV dormitory and the canteen. Beyond the technocratic aspect of the built environment, which we often focus on when we think of the university, there unfolds a heterogeneous area of micro-existences, of almost invisible, ephemeral threads, and a complex intellectual ecosystem – human capital.

The exhibition’s opening takes place on November 10, from 19:00, in the hall of the Faculty of Mechanics, and the show can be explored until February 10, 2024.
