Gaep opens its new space with a solo show of Cătălin Pîslaru

Gaep announces the opening of its new space, on Giuseppe Garibaldi Street 8 in Bucharest, on October 20. The inaugural exhibition at this address is a solo show by Cătălin Pîslaru, the newest artist represented by the gallery.

Located just a few steps from Floreasca Cinema Park, the space has been completely renovated and architecturally reimagined as a gallery space by Tesseract Architecture. With an area of over 300 m2 and an open space, it allows the exhibition of large works and can be configured for various types of installations. In addition to the exhibition space, it includes a dedicated area for events such as art workshops and seminars.

“After 9 years spent in a 19th century house, we are excited to make a change and move to a space with a modern design, in the northern part of the city”, says Andrei Breahnă, co-founder of Gaep. “The new premises will give us more visibility, and the artists we represent who have already exhibited several times at Gaep will have the opportunity to work with a fundamentally different space and think differently about their exhibitions.”

Cătălin Pîslaru’s exhibition, entitled ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’, will reveal new paintings by the artist, known for his minimalist yet colorful approach. His works are the result of a unique process that combines digital sketching, drawing and classical painting techniques.

Cătălin Pîslaru (b. 1988, Chisinau) graduated from the Bachelor and Master studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome in 2013, and in 2018 he obtained a second diploma, with the title of Meisterschüler, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. After graduation he moved to Düsseldorf to focus on an artistic practice that would harmonize the rigor acquired during his school years with his innate sense of humor. His works have recently been presented in solo shows at Nir Altman (Munich) and Schierke Seinecke (Frankfurt) galleries.
‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’ will be his first personal exhibition at Gaep and the first in Bucharest.
