City Waves | Video mapping creations signed by Vali Chincisan @ Camera K’ARTE

The City Waves exhibition brings to the fore video mapping creations signed by Vali Chincisan, commissioned or made in competitions for some of the most prestigious international art festivals: Genius Loci Weimar from Germany, Luz y Avanguardias from Spain, Kyiv Lights Festival from Ukraine, 1 Minute from Japan, The Chongqing International Light Art from China, and Spotlight Festival from Romania.

In video mapping, or “projection mapping,” art and technology spectacularly enhance each other, transforming static surfaces, such as building facades or other structures, into living, three-dimensional screens. These surfaces become canvases for dynamic visual and audio narratives through light projections, allowing them to metamorphose, animate, and reinterpret objects and spaces.

In international art festivals, video mapping has become a significant attraction, offering artists a global platform to showcase their creativity and explore new frontiers in visual art.

Vali Chincișan is known for his digital art and video mapping works. He constantly participates in many international festivals, such as WeLightFloripa in Brazil, where in 2022, his work “Life is Eryfg” was awarded first place. Other significant honors include a third place at the Mapsion Festival in Finland for “Shards in the Self Shadow” and at the Lightup Festival in Romania in 2019 for “Hydrus.” In 2017, the University of Salamanca in Spain awarded him the special prize for “Urban Tree,” a piece that also won the title of best Romanian film at Animest in 2009.

The artist has exhibited his work at events and exhibitions around the world. In Romania, he had a personal show called “[UN]RELATED TIMES AND TOPICS” at the Bucharest National Museum of Contemporary Art. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions and events such as SEND & RECEIVE in Dresden, Germany, EASTERNADAZED in Budapest, Hungary, A.LIVE FESTIVAL at Design Factory in Bratislava, Slovakia, JAVAMUSEUM – EXTASY, an online exhibition of Agricola de Cologne, FORMATE/MOVING PATTERNS at the Kunsthalle in Vienna, Austria, AGAINST SPACE at Galeria Dinamo in Budapest, Hungary, VIGIL OF PLANETARY NET ART 03 by Richard Barbeau’s global network, and YOUNG ARTISTS BIENNALE IN BUCHAREST, Romania.

Vali Chincisan moved from painting to coding image manipulation techniques and digital animation, emphasizing that the roots of creativity in all mediums are similar.
Born in 1980, Chincișan lives and works in Bucharest, Romania. He graduated from Târgu Mureș Art School in 1999, followed by Bucharest University of Art, where he completed his undergraduate studies in 2003 and a Master’s in Visual Arts in 2005. He exhibited in festivals between 2023 and 2018, including the Spotlight Festival in Bucharest, The First International Chongqing Light Art Festival in China, and WeLightFloripa in Florianópolis, Brazil.

The exhibition is part of the “Contemporary Art in the K’ARTE Room” project, 10th edition.
