The exhibition “In/FORM/all” at Galateea Contemporary Art presents the latest ceramic creations made in stoneware by Eusebio Spînu

The exhibition “In/FORM/all” signed by the visual artist Eusebio Spînu opened recently at Galateea Contemporary Art Gallery.

“In the exhibition “In/form/all”, the artist presents a series of parietal works in sandstone, decorated with colored engobes, paste, and accents made with glazes. These relatively small works illustrate, fluently and engagingly, the harmony between ceramics and graphics. The exhibition also includes several sculptural ceramic compositions and a large installation. These works are made of sandstone fired at a temperature of 1180 degrees Celsius.

The artist wants to draw the public’s attention to the fact that ceramics remain a material with unlimited resources. For the artist, ceramics has not exhausted its plastic and decorative resources and is one of the most attractive materials. He shares the conviction of his mentor and teacher, Costel Badea (one of the founders of the modern ceramics school in Romania), according to which “ceramics mean volume, color, and design.

A special aspect that defines Eusebio Spînu is his ability to prepare his own working materials – such as sandstone, clay, engobes and glazes. For 30 years, Eusebio Spînu worked with tiles produced in his own studio, using his own specific equipment, and as raw material – the soil of Dobrogea (he carried out this practice especially in the periods when ceramic materials were not available on the market). He experiments with ceramic materials such as clay, sandstone, porcelain and earthenware. He plays with glazes and colored earths, manipulates the line with subtlety and explores plastic and decorative volumes. The entire spectrum of expressive forms offered by ceramics is generously used in his creations” – Lucia Lobonț, visual artist and curator

Eusebio Spînu studied in the class of the renowned teacher Costel Badea, who passed over to him his love for ceramics. Throughout his artistic career, he has experimented with different artistic mediums from sculpture to painting, drawing, and installation, managing to express his creativity in his own style.

Simultaneously with his artistic activity, Eusebio Spînu taught at the Constanța Art High School, at the Cultural Center “Th. Burada” Constanța and at the Fine Arts High School “N. Tonitza” Bucharest, training and encouraging several generations of artists.

Eusebio Spînu has a rich exhibition activity with numerous personal exhibitions held in various cities in Romania and Switzerland and participation in numerous group exhibitions, both in the country (Iasi, Cluj, Bucharest, Mamaia, Mangalia) and abroad (Belgium, France , Japan, Bulgaria, Canada or Portugal).

The exhibition can be visited until July 12, 2023.
