On Wednesday, May 30, starting at 6 pm, the collective exhibition “Les plus fins du siècle”, curated by Anca Bodea, has opened .
The event, supported and hosted by NTT DATA Romania from Cluj-Napoca, brings together 13 young artists, graduates of the University of Art and Design from Cluj-Napoca, who managed to remain active on the local art scene.
“A young generation of artists means a considerable effort for a community. Educating, training artists is always a challenge! First of all, the whole process constantly raises questions: can artists really be educated, trained, “created”? There is no simple answer that indicates the percentage of preparation necessary for the success of a future artist: what percentage he took from education and how much is the natural data he came with in the art scene. What we know for sure about young artists is that they are just starting out and that, at the age of 20, they soar into a very competitive field with only one desire: to make art!
How do they get to make art? Traveling a bumpy road on a map of the profession that does not have a mold. No one can code for a successful creative career. No series of 1’s and 0’s, no matter how balanced, will guarantee a valid, deep and real artistic product. Artists at the beginning of the journey, work with variables, with uncertainties and with infinite possibilities of creation that must, in the end, be organized into a work of art.
The method is less important especially when we place this whole process in the territory of contemporary art. Moreover, artists reach the maximum point of freedom when they cross the road from idea to object. It is the only stretch of road where they are alone. Once the art object leaves the process, the artist is no longer part of the subsequent course of the artistic product. From this point, other actors of the community enter the game, those who can offer “a road map” to an artist at the beginning of the journey.
A dynamic and technological community cannot lack art and culture in its everyday life.
Cluj-Napoca benefits from a dynamic community of contemporary artists spanning all age groups, the most effervescent being the generation of young art university graduates.
In this first exhibition presented in the NTT DATA Romania space in Cluj-Napoca, we want to bring together 13 artists who graduated together from the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca in 2019 and who managed to stay active during this creation. I chose this generation because it is far from being homogeneous in style or themes and because its representatives are persistent in discovering art under all its manifestations, through an articulate artistic discourse.
NTT DATA Romania opened a door for these artists, thus bringing two worlds different in meaning and objectives but close in the desire to innovate. If for the world of technology innovation is a goal, for the world of art innovation comes through creation.”
