The Galateea Contemporary Art Gallery presents on Wednesday, April 12, starting at 6:30 p.m., the ceramics exhibition “A Choir of Angels”, by the Cluj-based artist Arina Ailincăi, curated by Cristina Popescu Russu.
After “Teralumen”, where Gloria Grati addressed, as a theme, the symbolism of the eye, ARINA AILINCĂI opens a window to the fascinating world of pure, serene, beneficial beings that accompany us throughout our lives.
Children’s faces made of porcelain, with protective wings, watch over us from above so that we do not make mistakes and choose the right path. They are not only faces but also states of mind – an endless opportunity for meditation on the life of each of us.

The ceramic exhibition “A Choir of Angels” is inspired by the sacred texts of all the traditions of mankind in which the presence of pure, winged spiritual beings called angels is mentioned. From the Greek Angelos – divine messenger, these beings are meant to be the companion, protector, and guide of the human being along the entire path of his existence. The approach to this theme of angels, as Andrei Pleșu also says, is not limited to the theological-metaphysical domain, but encompasses and capitalizes on the entire culture of the world, having always had a privileged place in the arts.
Starting from this heritage, the artist can imagine and symbolically materialize the world beyond the barriers of human perception. As far as I am concerned, I have chosen, from this entire universe of possible representations, the most common formal expression compatible with the ceramic material: that of a child’s head surrounded by wings, an expression that should be viewed by appealing to an inner faculty: “the eye heart”.

The exhibition can be visited until May 9, 2023.
